Five Foodie Finds for Friday, August 1st.

Five foodie finds for Friday, August 1, 2014 (c)nwafoodie

My little niece Jocelyn started kindergarten today and so begins her academic journey.  It thrilled me to see that instead of an elsya-princess-sophia-tangled-or-pink backpack, she chose a full-sized camo one.  Her simple reason was “because it’s nature and I like nature.”  You go, girl.

Needless to say, school is on my mind even though I don’t have any kiddos heading to class soon.  I can still get giddy about a lunchbox. Why should kids have all the fun?

1.

Vintage thermos. Doesn’t this old-timey thermos just scream the Adirondacks? If you are into vintage quirkiness, you can score this 1950s beauty for a mere $70.  Want the vintage look without the hefty price tag and the decades oldness?  West Elm has the Heritage Traveling Collection for under $30.

2.

Stainless steel containers. I have a couple of these beauties in different sizes.  Mostly, I use glass containers to store foods and transport, however there are times that slipping in the stainless steel container just livens up the occasion.

3.

Washi tape. When you get into a sandwich making rut, nothing will happy it up better than color washi tape. Use it as a colorful closure to wrapped parchment paper snacks or even a folded over snack bag or to secure a brown paper lunch bag.

4.

Bamboo bento box. There is something about dining out of a beautiful dish, plate, or container.  Perfect for a picnic or well, everyday lunch.  Why not?

5.

Insulated cooler. I am always in search of a functional yet unique cooler.  This one seems perfect for day trips and bus rides.

Happy new school year!

Eat well, my friends. Eat well.

inspiration

“Just like becoming an expert in wine–you learn by drinking it, the best you can afford–you learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simply or luxurious. Then you savor it, analyze it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences.” – Julia Child
