Ode to my first perfect tomato.

June 7, 2010 4 Comments
You were my first this year,
Plump, firm, and a bright vibrant red.
I had a bit of fear,
That if I waited too long to pick you, that you might not make it.
But hooray, fantastic, such joy!  You stayed perfect.
I picked you early Saturday morning,
Lovingly cradled in my caring hands as we drove.
Drove to my in-laws.
Where we sliced you up and savored you.
Every. Perfect. Bite.

I'm jealous! How early did you plant? I can't believe you're already eating ripe tomatoes!

Don't be jealous! We totally cheated this year and purchased mature plants at Lowes that were already a foot tall! I know, I am so ashamed! 🙂

Love it! Ours are still on the vine, can't wait to bite into the first one. Unlike you, I don't slice it gingerly. I hold the tomato in one hand and the salt shaker in the other and nosh! :o)

inspiration

“Just like becoming an expert in wine–you learn by drinking it, the best you can afford–you learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simply or luxurious. Then you savor it, analyze it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences.” – Julia Child
