Simple Joyful Food

small ideas that add joy to life

NWAFOODIE

I have an assignment for you.

May 19, 2011 13 Comments
Attention, please.
As you know, I am gluten-free and dairy-free.  Oh, how I would LOVE to try out the most decadent cheese-oozin’ over-the-top pizza at The Rail in downtown Rogers or the Fettuccini Alfredo at Mary Maestrie’s in Fayetteville.  And, don’t get me started about sampling French Pastries at Méridienne Dessert Salon and Café in Rogers.
This weekend I have a window of opportunity.  An open-checkbook, if you will.
And I need your help.
Monday morning I am getting tested for food allergies.  That means I need to make sure I have gluten and dairy and a host of other goodies in my system.
Yes, I can eat anything for one weekend only!
I’m doing it for science.  Okay, I’m really doing it because my doctor said to.
I’m so excited and yet, a little scared about how I am going to feel afterwards.  But I’m doing it for science, right?
So… Northwest Arkansas and beyond… I have an assignment for you…What should I eat?  Where should I eat?
I am totally open to running around town and experiencing an appetizer here, a main meal there, a dessert somewhere else…
What are YOUR favorite wheat and dairy dishes in Northwest Arkansas? ?????
P.S. I still can’t eat pork or shellfish, so exclude those, thanks.
Thanks for your assistance in this very important assignment!
Lyndi

Not a dish, but the cheese selection in Sam's Club is wonderful!
Then go to TCBY for frozen yoghurt.
Then to the newly re-opened (in new location in Bentonville) Jack's Java and Cakes for a pastry, and/or Kirby's Cupcakes for… a cupcake! 😛
Maybe a Starbuck's frappuchino to wash it all down?

Grilled cheese sounds divine! I went into Hammontrees once and had to leave because of the menu. Love it!

    Silja,

Yes! BRIE will be my very first bite!

I hadn't thought about TCBY or a full-flavored frappuchino. Oh man.

I'm going to have pace myself. Or at least follow up with a blog post on "gluttony."

Here is my suggestion for an AMAZING DELICIOUS appetizer. Go to Rolandos in downtown Rogers and order Queso Fundido……It has chorizo (pork I think) but surely they can take it out….It comes out flaming I LOVE IT

Are you going to keep a diary of how you feel every day, physically and emotionally? That might be interesting…

For a lazy breakfast in, Morningstar's facon, egg and cheese biscuits are yummy.

You should go to YumYo's for frozen yogurt. The Tahitian Vanilla is awesome!

For breakfast, the awesomely cheesy quiches at The Little Bread Company.

For lunch, pizza and/or calzones at Geraldi's.

For dinner, a Hugo's Bleu Moon Burger.

And for dessert, a "concrete" at Andy's frozen custard.

That would be my perfect day!!!

If my doctor told me to go and eat wheat and honey. I really wouldn't know what to do. I've been Gluten Free since 2000/2001. I think I would have lunch at Panera Bread and have a sandwich, baked potato soup. Go home and sit on the potty for a while. Then I think I would go to shoguns for dinner and have a dish with an exorbitant amount of soy sauce. Visit the restroom there and then Cold Stone for an ice cream with a cookie mixed in. Day two: Have a hot and made fresh donut from Olde Tyme Donuts with a fancy Starbucks coffee… maybe a mocha or something. For Lunch go to horseshoe bend and have a picnic with a hotdog on a regular bun followed by a smore or ten. Visit the rather clean potties there and hike for a while. On the way back into town hit that chicken place in Monte Ne for dinner. Stop by Barnes and Noble have a fancy coffee with a cookie and visit there bathroom there before going home and spending the rest of the night sick in bed and in the bathroom. I think I would also need to visit Suzi Q in Rogers for some rings and a burger, but I might be too sick by now to do so. Goodluck with your free weekend pass.

Thanks for all of your suggestions!! I better get a game plan!

Okay… so I am getting REALLY nervous about how I am going to feel during/after all of this (especially after reading Mandy Snow's comments, yikes!!!). And yes, Silja, I AM keeping a diary and taking photos! Don't worry, no bathroom pixs.

So I went on my weekly grocery shopping trip last night and really browsed all the aisles to see what I could throw in my basket for this weekend.

Would you believe that there really isn't anything I CRAVE or MISS? I guess it goes to show that I like feeling good more than eating something that makes me hurt. I did buy a trial size package of milano cookies that I will have 1 or 2 with my coffee sometime this weekend. I know, crazy bold, eh?

    More to come…

I want to hear about your favorite ooey-gooey cheesy-chewy dishes… not desserts… meals!

    Keep 'em coming…

Mama Dean's! Fried chicken or their hand breaded chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and fried corn nuggets (or crack nuggets as we call them…so addictive, we can't stop eating them!) And their sweet tea….I don't know how they make that magical elixir but I'm pretty sure it's brewed by leprechauns and unicorns.

My name is Lyndi Fultz, and I live in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, which span Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri.

I like to share small ideas for living simply and eating happily.

You will find that I talk a lot about food because we all need to eat. Why not add little bits of food joy where possible?

“Just like becoming an expert in wine–you learn by drinking it, the best you can afford–you learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simply or luxurious. Then you savor it, analyze it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences.” – Julia Child
