Here’s an alternative to the drive-thru window… sushi!

July 27, 2010 8 Comments
So I was out and about on Sunday, running around, and was famished.  I wanted something more than my Larabar.
Fast food was out of the question.
Sitting down at a restaurant was out of the question.
If I had packed a lunch, that would have rocked.  Did I?  Nope.
So here was the challenge:  what could I eat that was fast, not junk food, and still tasty?
Oh, and didn’t cost an arm and a leg?
Sushi!  Well, almost sushi…. an avocado roll from Sho-Guns!
For just $4.13 (+ tip) I had avocado (protein + good fat + taste) and seaweed (healthy) and rice (carbs to feel filled up).
Delish!
Next time you are running around and in the same situation, consider calling in a to-go order from your favorite sushi spot.  It only took 10 minutes!
Happy eating on-the-go!

I like Wasabi in Rogers for their veggie sushi rolls. They even have a drive-through! Though last time we went, they had ran out of rice and it would have been a 30 mins wait. Seriously, how does a Japanese place run out of rice???

Sushi is my daughter's fave! The last time we left Denver, we stopped at Whole Foods and put some in the ice chest for the drive home. It was the perfect ice box treat-one or two for a light snack; a few more for a light meal on the road.

Hi Silja, I didn't know there was a Wasabi in Rogers… I only know of the one on Dickson Street in Fayetteville. And drive through, too? Rock on! Funny about the rice… I went to WOW! Sushi in Fayetteville with my niece's a few Sunday's ago and they ran out of rice, too. 🙂 Maybe I should invest in rice futures. ha ha

Thanks for sharing about Wasabi's drive thru and veggie sushi rolls. I'm in!

    Hi Kimber,

Good comment about Whole Food's sushi for the road. Last time Dennis and I were in Tulsa we did the same thing. Although I'm quite the glutton… both then and on Sunday at Sho-Guns I ate ALL the rolls! Good idea to keep it on ice and use it as a "perfect ice box treat."

    Thanks for the idea!

I love sushi! I never would have thought to order some for pick up. I usually grab something to-go from a fast food restaurant that I don't want just to beat the hunger. Thank you for sharing!

Now I want sushi! I seriously JUST read in the Fall In Style magazine to eat starches and veggies, proteins and veggies, and fats and starches together as healthy combos. Bad combos are proteins and starches, fats and proteins. It showed a picture of avocado sushi as a good combo! 🙂

    Earl-Leigh,

I am so glad it this was a helpful tip! Even if you order in from someone like Sho-Guns, it really is the same wait time as a drive-thru window.

    Have a great one!
