small ideas that add joy to life

live happily

“Who are you? And what have you done with my wife?”

July 10, 2011 8 Comments

Wednesday night is Grocery Night.

I’m a list-maker and rarely do I sway off the path UNLESS something catches my eye.  And boy oh boy, I love it when that happens because it usually means that there is something NEW being offered.

New intrigues me.

This week was different.  I went solo grocery shopping.

Sans hubby.

Just little ‘ole me.

With my list.

But wait!  I spied something new at Allen’s Market in Bella Vista!  Recently they began stocking Fayetteville’s Stone Mill Bakery breads and rolls.  Okay, that wasn’t new.  But what was new to me was cinnamon rolls.

Oooey-Gooey not-too-big-but-not-too-small cinnamon rolls.  My husband was going to looooooove these, I thought proudly.

In the basket they went.

Then I promptly forgot about it.

Fast-forward thirty-minutes and I am in my kitchen, putting away groceries and chatting on the phone with my mother-in-law.

There was a commotion in front of me.  Arms waving.  Raised eyebrows in disbelief.  Mouth moving. Saying words without any sound.  I looked up, mid-sentence, startled.

“Who are you?  And what have you done with my wife?”

I should buy him fun foods more often.

If you’re in the Bella Vista area, stop in and check out these babies at Allen’s Market.  Six for $5.99 is hefty, yes, but sometimes life deserves a little treat.  All of their breads, rolls and cinnamon rolls are delivered daily.  Fresh.

In the Fayetteville area?  By all means, pop into Stone Mill Bakery and buy them right where they are baked!

Enjoy!

Lyndi

Eat well, my friends.  Eat well.

    Those look amazing.

I tried Briar Rose Bakery and Cafe today, for the first time ever. They make ahhhmazing pastries and sandwiches. It was something out of the ordinary for us, but it totally paid off. (I had a mozzarella, tomato, and fresh basil sandwich on a freshly-baked baguette. With pesto, made fresh daily at the bakery. It was glorious.)

Kelly, first you're switching things up with iced coffee and now a new bakery and cafe! What's next? You'll be hosting an iced coffee and freshly made baguette and pesto dinner party!

Let's look at the descriptions you just said: ahhhmazing, fresh, freshly-baked, glorious.

    Well said!

You should've seen Dennis's hands wildly waving around, trying to get my attention. Think Will Ferrell when he goes crazy! ha ha ha

I like to share small ideas for living simply and eating happily.

You will find that I talk a lot about food because we all need to eat. Why not add little bits of food joy where possible?

There is something quite glorious about simplicity There is something quite glorious about simplicity. I'm really feeling it as Dennis and I sit here in our living room, next to the crackling fire. Full disclosure, this picture isn't me BUT I do have the exact same coffee cup. Anyoo, I'm reminded how wonderful it is to be still. Not that I ever forget that reminder, it's just easier to revel in it, next to a fire. With snow softing falling outside. You know what I mean?
My coffee routine is alllll over the place! Firs My coffee routine is alllll over the place!

First, it was a percolator.
Then came the Breville coffee maker.
Next, along came a bodum pour over.
Quickly replaced by a French Press.
Then came an Aeropress.
Followed by a rediscovery of a favorite instant brand we enjoyed in Isreal.
Now, Aeropress is making a comeback.
And our beloved LaVazza espresso.
Which tastes like vacation at the Sonnelap in Vail.

Am I the only one who does coffee in phases?

What's next?

Probably need an espresso maker!

Record player turntable = slow, easy, chill

Both have their places. But man, oh man, I am finding myself craving more of the latter: slow, easy, chill.

“Just like becoming an expert in wine–you learn by drinking it, the best you can afford–you learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simply or luxurious. Then you savor it, analyze it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences.” – Julia Child
