If you’ve ever wanted to stop the world for a second to get off the ride and breathe in the joy of the moment, why not do it today?
What would you say if you and I sat at a coffee shop and I asked, “Whatcha’ doing for delight today?”
Would your answer look like this?
- “I don’t have time.”
- “Yeah, right. Too many deadlines.”
- “Must be nice.”
- “I wouldn’t know what to do if I had a moment to breathe.”
Okay, here is the right answer to my question:
“I’m grabbing a few minutes today to step aside from the crazy and enjoy a simple snack or drink. And I’m going to delight in every minute of it.”
Here’s why the simple things in life are the best.
The older I get, the more I’m convinced that the simple things are the best things in life.
Simple things are often:
- Engage the senses
Wondering how to get started?
I LOOOOOVEEE little happy moments. Always have, ever since I can remember! Yet, I know that only some are built this way. And that’s okay. All it takes is a little determination and practice.
All it takes is a little 1 + 2 + 3.
- Look at your calendar and point to a moment where you grab 10 minutes today.
- Set your alarm for that moment.
- When the alarm goes off, get up and move to a quiet space with a snack or drink.
The idea is to build a habit.
A daily happy-delight moment.
As each day goes by, keep your eyes open for simple foods or drinks you can set aside for these daily delights. Here are a few to get you thinking.
- One chocolate truffle
- A new type of tea
- Bottle of a local porter or ale
- A cheese stick
- Slice of brie
- Five fresh blackberries
- A spoonful of honey
See? Simple delights.
Oh, one more thing.
I gave you a trick question in the beginning.
“What would you say if you and I sat at a coffee shop and I asked, “Whatcha’ doing for delight today?”
Want the real answer?
“This. I’m spending this time in a coffee shop… with you.”
Eat well, my friends.
P.S. If all else fails, even putting on happy mood music to listen to while making food can add a boost of delight.
