KFSM: Tips on how to spice up Thanksgiving.

What a thrill it was to work with the KFSM Channel 5 Morning Crew on a three-part Thanksgiving preparation series.

I was giddy with anticipation when Meteorologist Joe Pennington, and his two-morning counterparts, anchors Heather Lewis and Jay Plyburn, and cameraman Robbie showed up on my doorsteps three Fridays ago to film the three segments.

Wait a minute did I just say a three-part series and three segments?

Scratch that.

The segment with Jay Plyburn ending up as a two-part segment, so technically this is a four-part Thanksgiving preparation series, right?

Poor Jay, I threw so much at him.

Although, now that I think about it… maybe I wasn’t all to blame.  Maybe he got into the food prep and tasting just a little tooooo much.  Did you know that he is a foodie?

Our segment was about how to spice up your Thanksgiving by involving others, adding variety, and a little bit of charm.  Now you see why it morphed into a two-part segment, right?

  • If you missed it, here are the video links to Part 1 and Part 2.

Some of the topics we talked about I have already posted about, such as the ultimate appetizer of all time, the veggie cup.  It is a great snack to give to your guests to assemble when they arrive.

Another trick we talked about was adding variety to your Thanksgiving spread by making flavored compound butter ahead of time as well as creating a sampling voting station.

Joe went a little bit crazy over the sweet cinnamon butter and tried to get me to take a big bite of butter!  It was a huge glob and I refused!  Obviously, that part didn’t make it to the final cut.

Who knows?  Maybe one day I will get to the point where I can handle a bigger bite of butter.

What was cool is that something so simple is easy to make and adds an unexpected touch. All it takes is a little imagination and thinking outside the box, such as adding little descriptive tags to describe snacks and drinks or serving little cups of soup as an appetizer.

The entire 5News Crew loved my cream of chunky carrot soup.  It’s perfect for Thanksgiving.

If you missed last week’s segment, Weather Joe and I talked about hosting your first Thanksgiving and handling it like a pro.

Set a reminder for next Thursday morning when Heather Lewis and I talk about Thanksgiving leftovers.

You aren’t going to want to miss it!

She is lovely.

Hope to see you next Thursday morning on KFSM 5NEWS on TV or via live streaming.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Eat well, my friends. Eat well.
