KFSM Channel 5 meteorologist Joe Pennington tweeted me recently and asked if I would be interested in filming a three-part morning news segment about Thanksgiving.
Would I be interested?
Um, yes, yes, yes.
Thanksgiving is my favorite family meal and the one showstopping banquet that Dennis and I have worked the most kinks out of over the years. I may not have a doctorate of Thanksgiving but I am pretty sure I am an honorary master of Thanksgiving.
Sign me up!
Weather Joe and his early-morning counterparts – anchor Heather Lewis, Jay Plyburn, and cameraman Robbie – showed up on my doorsteps two Fridays ago to film the segments. Ya’ll, it was an absolute BLAST! That morning crew is even nicer in person than they appear on TV.
Seriously. As always, I overdid it and each segment filming was 14-26 minutes long. They are going to have to edit it down to 2 minutes. Sorry guys!
Here are the dates and topics.
- Thursday, 11/6: Hosting Thanksgiving for the first time with Joe Pennington
- Thursday, 11/13: Spicing Up Thanksgiving with Jay Plyburn
- Thursday, 11/20: Thanksgiving Leftovers with Heather Lewis
- Here is the video link to Thursday’s segment.
Here are more details about the preplanningposter boards that I talked about. If you were intrigued about prepping vegetables ahead of time, here is the link to the basics of blanching. Seriously, it will improve your life.
Cranberry sauce is one of the easiest things on earth to make, so please just make it early and keep it in the fridge. I also briefly mentioned to Joe to order your turkey now.
I am a firm believer in fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving because it takes the stress/guesswork out of figuring out how long to thaw the bird. Less stress is good. Lastly, here are a few tips about finding inexpensive pieces for your Thanksgiving table.
Hope to see you next Thursday morning on KFSM 5NEWS on TV or via live streaming.
Happy hosting.
Eat well, my friends. Eat well.
