A fun tip for summertime entertaining.

4th of July invitation ad Paperless Post (c)thejoyofeatingwell

Ad. This cute digital announcement was created for Paperless Post.

The sun is shining and * begging * us to get outside already! It is so easy to get wrapped up in the to-do list and the 9-to-5 and before we know it another hour has passed by and then we’re off to pick up the kids, get the groceries, or whatever else that grabs our attention. One way to ensure we are making the most of summertime is to up our summertime entertaining game plan!

A five-minute summertime entertaining game plan:

  1. Pick a time to have people over in the next week.
  2. Hop over to Paperless Post and pick out a cute digital invitation.
  3. Customize your digital invitation and add your personal touch.
  4. Email your super cute invitations to your friends and family.
  5. Wait for the invites to come in and the “what can I bring?” questions.

The most important thing is to get that ball rolling and don’t overthink it! In my experience people just love being invited (even if they can’t come!) and they’re just happy they don’t have to host!

Now, THIS is where the most important public service comes in… keep it super duper simple.Parties that go over the top with complicated foods, sophisticated appetizers, too many rules, and the accompanying uptightness ruin it for everyone AND make it so other people will never want to host their own summertime soirees: they feel like they can’t compete! The more relaxing it is, the more relaxed they’ll be and the more relaxed you will be. Which means… you’ll want to host again (and maybe they’ll reciprocate).

Is summertime entertaining easy (or hard) for you? How can I help?

Happy entertaining!

Eat well, my friends.

“Just like becoming an expert in wine–you learn by drinking it, the best you can afford–you learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simply or luxurious. Then you savor it, analyze it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences.” – Julia Child
