I Clean, You Clean, We All Clean the Dishes as We Cook.

I fought this habit for way too long. One of the most common complaints when it comes to cooking/baking/meal prep is the number of dishes that must be washed once you’re finished. After all, it’s common sense that we should clean the dishes as we cook, right?

Right.

So, why don’t we develop this habit?

The fact-of-the-matter is that it’s hard. Hard isn’t fun. Hard because sometimes we just did the hard… by making the food and baking the things and prepping like a mad woman.

Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean we stop cooking, trying to eat healthy, or washing our hair (not that I need to right now or anything like that, I’m not pointing fingers here).

Want to know a secret?

Cleaning the dishes as you cook really isn’t all that hard. It really really really really isn’t.

Know what IS hard? Getting a sufficient amount of sleep every day is hard. Regular and consistent exercise is hard. Not binging on stupid snacks late at night is hard (when they’re talking to you from the pantry). Managing the responsibilities of life when it comes to health, finances, maintenance, and family needs is hard.

Taking two minutes to fill up a sink with biodegradable sudsey dish soap and hot water isn’t hard. In fact, we don’t even have to fill the sink all the way up! Drop a cute sponge it the water and as you chop, stir, whisk, and fold… plop the utensils in the water and let it sit for a few minutes. Need to use it again? Quickly clean and rinse and you’re ready to rock. The same goes for pots, pans, plates, and dishes. In and out.

See, told you it was easy.

But then, we already knew it was easy, right? And sometimes, easy is hard. But you know what? The more we do this and build this habit, I promise the easier it will become just like second nature.

I’m going to start posting more simple tips here on the blog. I love to eliminate clutter in my life and that includes anything that makes life more difficult. Would that interest you? I don’t want to be offense by posting things that are too obvious and simplified.

But then again, sometimes we overlook the simple and just need someone to encourage us.

Eat happily,

Lyndi
