Did you receive your September 2011 issue of Martha Stewart Living? In it, there is an enchanting article on page 138 that delves into the jadeite green class collection of Martha Stewart and her daughter, Alexis.
According to the article, “during the Depression, when housewives couldn’t afford to waste a crumb, glassware companies turned out inexpensive jadeite containers for flour, salt, and other ingredients.”
Charming!
As any collectable, some pieces are harder to locate, such as green glass butter dishes with lids.

All you have to do is look around! Garage sales, flea markets, your relative’s cabinets, and ebay to name a few.
Actually, I found a place locally that has a decent collection to check out: The Tontitown Flea Market (apparently the first and original flea market to hit Tontitown), is located on the southside of Hwy 412E. An easy drive from just about anywhere in Northwest Arkansas. Open daily from 9-5.

The benefit of these green dishes is their stability along with their appealing green tone.
One more thing… if you find a darker green dish, that’s extra credit for you because they are more rare.
