Grilled dates wrapped in turkey pastrami.

Yeah, it tastes even better than it looks.

Prepping these medjool date appetizers and grilling them until they are bubbling with fragrant aromas is so quick and easy it is almost a sin.

The hardest part is stopping yourself from devouring them all yourself.

Do you have a party with friends or a family get-together coming up soon?

Why not make these?

Grilled dates wrapped in {fake} bacon appetizer

Source: nwafoodie (inspired by Table Mesa)

Serves: 10-12 people

Ingredients

3oz Gorgonzola crumbled cheese

4oz cream cheese

20-24 Medjool dates

12 very thin slices of smoked turkey pastrami (or turkey bacon) from the deli counter of your local market

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the Gorgonzola and cream cheese until creamy consistency.  A spoon works nicely.
  2. With a small paring knife, cut slits in the dates from side to side, exposing the pit.  Remove the pit and stem.
  3. Stack the pastrami and cut lengthwise. You will now have 24 strips.
  4. With a butter knife, fill the insides of the date with the cheese mixture and wrap with a piece of pastrami and set aside.
  5. One you have wrapped the dates turn on your grill.  If you do not have a gas grill, be sure to have your BBQ warmed and ready to go when you start.  Otherwise, pour yourself a glass of something nice and chill for a while.  You will want it nice an hot for this appetizer!
  6. Place your grill pan on the grill.  If you do not have a grill pan, use a piece of aluminum foil and poke holes in it.  You should really get a grill pan, by the way.
  7. Using heat-resistant tongs, place each date in your grill pan or on your aluminum foil.  Wait a few minutes and turn them over until the cheeses start running out.
  8. Remove from heat and plate.  Turn off grill and enjoy!

Eat well, my friends.  Eat well.
