Here’s how to do a Tim-Tam-Slam.

February 19, 2010 Leave a Comment
We did something really fun as a team last week. We had a potluck for lunch.
Not just any old potluck… this one had a theme.
Where is your favorite vacation spot and bring a dish that represents your favorite vacation spot.”

What a blast! As expected in the middle of the coolest winter that Northwest Arkansas has had in years, there were a plethora of tropical themes, photos, and dishes. It was a thrill to get to know my work-friends in a new way and their favorite vacation spots spanned the globe.
And then… we all learned how to do the… Tim-Tam-Slam!

Ever heard of it? Neither had we.
Here’s the story:
Angela Pruitt (super-cool gal, only DON’T call her Angie) spent six months in New Zealand on a work visa right after college. She shared photos, stories, and… to our suprise we were all ordered to get a cup of coffee so we could experience her dish that represented New Zealand.
So, we were all given a Tim-Tam cookie and then given the step-by-step Tim-Tam-Slam instructions.
Ready?
1.
Bite off one corner of the Tim-Tam cookie.

2.
Bite off the opposite corner of the Tim-Tam cookie.

3.
Your Tim-Tam cookie is now a straw. Use the bitten off ends to “suck” in the coffee. I know, it sounded strange to us. Try it. Again, think of your cookie as a straw.

4.
As soon as your Tim-Tam cookie fills up with the coffee, pull it out of the cup and “slam” it into your mouth by flipping it. Do it quickly!

5.
Ahhhh…. It should melt in your mouth like a little piece of cloud-heaven. You know you did it right if you moan, according to Angela. If it doesn’t work the first time, try and try again until you succeed!

Thanks Angela for sharing the Tim-Tam-Slam with all of us! She ended up ordering a case on Amazon so that made it extra nice.
… but wait… good news Northwest Arkansas!

Tim-Tams are available at Allen’s Market in Bella Vista (on 71B, next to the movie theater) and are just $1.99 a package! Hurry, because this was a special buy and the manager says he hopes to make it a permanent side counter item!  It is also an everyday side counter item at Target in Rogers.

P.S. Sorry my gluten-free friends. Tim-Tams are not GF. I had to “fake” the photo above. See, I’m not really eating it!

I like to share small ideas for living simply and eating happily.

You will find that I talk a lot about food because we all need to eat. Why not add little bits of food joy where possible?

In pursuit of small joys that add simplicity to life. + @nwafoodie

There are signs of spring everywhere, and I am rea There are signs of spring everywhere, and I am ready for it! Yet..... that doesn't mean that I'm still hopeful for some cool mornings where we can light a fire!

There is something quite glorious about simplicity There is something quite glorious about simplicity. I'm really feeling it as Dennis and I sit here in our living room, next to the crackling fire. Full disclosure, this picture isn't me BUT I do have the exact same coffee cup. Anyoo, I'm reminded how wonderful it is to be still. Not that I ever forget that reminder, it's just easier to revel in it, next to a fire. With snow softing falling outside. You know what I mean?
My coffee routine is alllll over the place! Firs My coffee routine is alllll over the place!

First, it was a percolator.
Then came the Breville coffee maker.
Next, along came a bodum pour over.
Quickly replaced by a French Press.
Then came an Aeropress.
Followed by a rediscovery of a favorite instant brand we enjoyed in Isreal.
Now, Aeropress is making a comeback.
And our beloved LaVazza espresso.
Which tastes like vacation at the Sonnelap in Vail.

Am I the only one who does coffee in phases?

What's next?

Probably need an espresso maker!

Microwave turntable = quick, fast, speed

Record player turntable = slow, easy, chill

Both have their places. But man, oh man, I am finding myself craving more of the latter: slow, easy, chill.

Now, to get a record player...

“Just like becoming an expert in wine–you learn by drinking it, the best you can afford–you learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simply or luxurious. Then you savor it, analyze it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences.” – Julia Child
