A simple fix for Member’s Mark organic spice shaker lids.

I’m not sure exactly when Sam’s Club started selling their larger-sized Member’s Mark organic spices in the minimalist glass jars. All I know is that I was super pleased to see them switch from plastic to glass and eliminate all the clutter on the packaging. The price is competitive, the spice selection is abundant and the well, can I keep on talking to you about how pretty those glass jars are?

So, who cares if the packaging is pretty? Technically, it doesn’t affect how the spices taste, right? I believe that pretty, clean and simple packaging adds a joyful touch. Think about it. Go to your spice drawer, cabinet or pantry right now and pause a moment. Unless you have those Container Store matching jars, your spice area probably looks a little cluttered with different labels and sizes. Of course, variety IS the spice of life (my bad, you know I had to) and seasonings are so much fun when experimenting in the kitchen! But for those times you can add a small touch of pretty to the meal occasion, I say go for it! These spices from Sam’s Club are a nice touch.

Okay, okay. I must admit there is one slight flaw to these spice jars… the lid. Essentially, the lids are screw caps with no shaker control. This works fine for commercial kitchen when someone measures by the cupfuls, yet for us regular folks, a shaker lid would go a long ways.

Guess what?

I searched around on amazon to find a substitute lid with shaker options that would fit the Member’s Mark organic spices and I found one! They come in different colors and I picked white because I love a clean simple look. Here’s the link to the shaker lid multi-pack and see for yourself.

Thanks, Lyndi. I’ve been holding on to my old plastic versions and refilling with the new jar versions, because, I, too, want to be able to use the shaker. There’s another problem, however, with the jars. The mouths are too narrow for inserting a tablespoon. Still, my plastic jar lids are wearing out, so I will at least be able to get better use out of the new style as time goes by.

Hey Kelly! I’m so glad to help and how fun that we are on the same page about those lids! I know what you mean about the tablespoon… I have two styles and one is slim and fits, the other doesn’t!

Thank you for this neat idea! My issue is I cannot get the lids unscrewed! Do you have any suggestions?

Oh yes! I’m feeling this! My last garlic bottle the lid had this issue! I used a “rubber jar gripper” to get it loose! Just google that term and you’ll see exactly what I am talking about. It’s a great (and inexpensive) gadget to have on hand for so many tight jar lids. Good luck!

There is something quite glorious about simplicity There is something quite glorious about simplicity. I'm really feeling it as Dennis and I sit here in our living room, next to the crackling fire. Full disclosure, this picture isn't me BUT I do have the exact same coffee cup. Anyoo, I'm reminded how wonderful it is to be still. Not that I ever forget that reminder, it's just easier to revel in it, next to a fire. With snow softing falling outside. You know what I mean?

First, it was a percolator.
Then came the Breville coffee maker.
Next, along came a bodum pour over.
Quickly replaced by a French Press.
Then came an Aeropress.
Followed by a rediscovery of a favorite instant brand we enjoyed in Isreal.
Now, Aeropress is making a comeback.
And our beloved LaVazza espresso.

Am I the only one who does coffee in phases?

What's next?

Both have their places. But man, oh man, I am finding myself craving more of the latter: slow, easy, chill.
